All Levi's 501 jeans have copper rivets on pocket corners. Jacob Davis, a Nevada tailor, began making these little copper rivets around 1872 when a customer complained that her husband was wearing through his pants too quickly. Davis secured the pockets with the copper rivets This design was soon used a lot and tailors began putting copper rivets on there pants. Nowadays copper rivets are on almost every jeans.
Davis joined up with his fabric supplier, Levi Strauss, and the two began working with each other. Davis soon moved to San Francisco to take a look at the new factory, which they named Copper Riveted Waist Overalls. Today people say that the original overalls were so popular that miners would say, 'Have you heard about these pants coming from Levi's?' And after a few years the name just stuck and so now its called Levi´s."
In the Gold rush the clothing was very important but often it was based on the miners nationality. A European miner in the gold rush wore loose fitting trousers and shirts or jeans form levis but most of the Chines workers wore a traditional work rope.
